ESL Teaching Enhancement Workshop: Teaching English through Translation

The English as Second Language Teaching Enhancement workshop on Teaching English through Translation was successfully held on 2 July 2021 at the English Language and Culture Centre. The event was organized by the Department of English. The aim of the workshop was to inspire ESL teachers, educators and students with examples of incorporating translation into ESL teaching to enhance the effectiveness of ESL teaching at secondary and tertiary level of education.

A group of secondary school English teachers participated in the workshop at our Language Center. We had English teachers from other schools joining us via Zoom as well. Thanks to the Internet and digital technologies, both online and offline participants had an intensive interaction.

The workshop concluded with a discussion on ESL teaching materials. Jim Hawkins, the developer of the virtual interpreting system KOSMOS, joined the discussion through Zoom and offered an insight into digitalizing ESL teaching.
