Mr Tim Yau-man LAU obtained his Master of Arts in English for the Professions from Hong Kong Polytechnic University. He received his Bachelor of Honours in Business Administration from the University of Huddersfield. He completed his Postgraduate Diploma in Education (English major) at the University of Hong Kong. He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS). He also has a Diploma in Purchasing & Supply awarded by Hong Kong Baptist University – SCE and a Diploma in Educational Psychology awarded by the Hong Kong Management Association.
Tim assisted the pharmacy of Tuen Mun Hospital in procuring medical consumables and supplies between 1998 and 2005. He also assisted the former Lee Wai Lee Technical Institute of Vocational Training Council in purchasing goods and services between 1996 and 1998.
Tim worked as a teacher in Caritas Institute for Further & Adult Education – Tuen Mun Night School from 2001 to 2008, teaching and reviewing business courses for the institute. He developed a number of new business and logistic-related courses for Caritas-Hong Kong to meet the market needs of quality programmes at the beginning of 2000s. He has been serving as an assessor for the logistics industry since 2012.
Tim taught Business English in Hong Kong Baptist University – School of Continuing Education in 2008 and Workplace English Programme in Lingnan Institute of Further Education (LIFE) from 2009 to 2010.
Tim worked as an English lecturer in the Clothing Industry Training Authority from 2010 to 2016. He taught English to students from diploma up to undergraduate level. He was also appointed as a programme leader to supervise and support the programmes organised by partner schools.
Tim was commissioned by Pan Lloyds Publishers Ltd to write exercises and books for primary three and six students in Hong Kong. He was the writer and author of Pan Lloyds TSA English Exercises for Primary 3 and 6 Students to provide training and preparation for students before taking the TSA assessment.
Tim has been serving as an English tutor at Hong Kong Metropolitan University since 2010. He has previously taught ENGL E070 English for Post-secondary Study, ENGL A090 English Speaking & Listening Skills and ENGL A200 Analysing English Grammar. He was elected as tutor representative to serve on the Senate of Hong Kong Metropolitan University in 2021. He is also a certificated oral examiner of international language testing in South China.
Tim has been working as a freelance interpreter (Chinese/English) for the Hong Kong Police Force since 2007; he is also working as a part-time interpreter (Chinese/English) for the Department of Health at the moment.
Tim was an active volunteer and part-time tutor for many NGOs (e.g. the Salvation Army, the Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups and International Social Service Hong Kong Branch etc.). He provided social adjustment programmes including planning and implementing various projects, mainly serving the underprivileged and the new arrivals.
Tim was awarded 1997 South China Morning Post/Hongkong Telecom Scholarship and 2018 Hong Kong Management Association (HKMA) – Susan Yuen Fellowship and Research Foundation Scholarship.
