The main objective of this course is to appreciate selected writings of mainstream English and American writers, and enhance students’ understanding of literature. This course also aims to develop students’ critical thinking and awareness of social, historical, and cultural contexts and influences in the study of literature.

Upon successful completion of the course, students should be able to:
1. Define literary terms, explain critical theories, and describe key features of literary Learning works with concrete examples from texts; 2. Examine and analyse literary works with a critical mind; 3. Collect and synthesize information from a variety of sources, and critically evaluate alternative explanations, arguments and theories; 4. Argue sustained and persuasive arguments cogently and coherently; and 5. Engage with different interpretations of texts and relate abstract concepts and theories to specific texts. |
