3. Approaches to intercultural communication

4. International cultures

5. Cultural taxonomies

6. Cutural Identity: issues of belonging

7. Non-dominant domestic cultures: gender and communication, gay culture, etc.

8. Perception, stereotypes and prejudice

9. Verbal & Non-verbal communication

10. Cultural shock

Upon successful completion of the course, students should be able:

1. Define major concepts and theories related to intercultural communication;

2. Appreciate The Basic Communication Theory;

3. Identify factors that may affect the communication process and cause communication breakdowns;

4. Appreciate the extent to which the “Medium Can be the Message”; and

5. Apply communication skills to strike a balance between personal differences and similarities.
